Nambucca is the sort of venue we all miss, small enough to be an intimate experience and big enough to go wild if you’ve taken full advantage of the bar. Fortunately The Rank Deluxe weren’t holding back for anybody, their self confessed ‘Sewage’ music, consisting of a strong mix of Punk, Ska, Reggae and Rock ‘n’ Roll was quickly sweeping its way through and tearing up peoples insides on the way out.

From first impressions you could be forgiven for thinking that the hooded youths coming toward the stage weren’t about to pick up their guitars and scream until your ears were bleeding, but that they were going to start a riot, however when they did pick up the guitars, start a riot is exactly what they did.

Their set was loud, tight and they knew exactly what they were doing and how to get the reactions they craved from their fans.
Despite the girls they’d obviously paid to come and start the dance, as they became bigger and louder, the audience did the same; the women were thrashing about and the men were chanting, both completely oblivious to the people who had never heard of this band before.

I didn’t expect to see anything different tonight, and I certainly wasn’t expecting to come away confused as to whether or not I actually enjoyed the band, their music was loud and intrusive, however they sang with such anger and passion that I almost believed them.

It’s a pleasure to see a band that are obviously so dedicated to what they are doing that they are confident enough to take their instruments to the floor. The stage provided wasn’t big enough for The Rank Deluxe and I have a feeling that this is going to be the case for some time to come.
